Unveiling the 2025 Sundial
Each spring, the Marlborough community awaits with baited breath to see the unveiling of the year’s yearbook theme and witness the dedication ceremony. On May 16, The Sundial staff led an All-School Meeting to reveal their creative vision for this year’s edition and honor a very special member of the community.
Co-Editors-in-Chief Jane R. ’25 and Lily S. ’25 introduced this year’s theme, a celebration of Los Angeles and its unique characteristics. More than just a record of school events, The Sundial staff designed it to be a permanent keepsake that has the power to connect students to their roots for years to come.
“No matter how far you go or how long you’re gone, The Sundial is a way to remind you of where you came from,” shared Jane. The cover features a postcard design, symbolizing how memories of Marlborough and Los Angeles will follow graduates wherever life may take them.
The theme explores how students have “planted roots through special memories in the city we consider home,” Lily said, emphasizing the formative experiences and friendships developed during students’ journeys at Marlborough.
An important part of each year’s Sundial is the person to whom the Senior Class dedicates the book. In a moving video compilation of stories about their honoree, the Class of 2025 revealed that this year’s yearbook is dedicated to Ms. Teresa Jones, a beloved Café M staff member. The video featured students sharing personal stories of the ways in which Ms. Teresa has touched their lives.
Students described Ms. Teresa as “a light on this campus” and “everybody’s friend” who creates “a welcoming presence” throughout the school. Throughout the stories, there were many common threads: Ms. Teresa’s remarkable ability to remember all 530 Marlborough students’ names and her genuine interest in each individual’s wellbeing.
“She just genuinely cares about all of us so much, and that’s really special,” reflected one Senior, while others highlighted her famous hugs and affectionate terms of endearment that brighten their days.
The yearbook staff explained that Ms. Teresa was chosen because she “had made an impact on every single one of us individually and played a large role in our everyday life at Marlborough.”
The Sundial staff’s commitment to creating a meaningful yearbook that captures both the spirit of the school year and the essence of their hometown of Los Angeles was evident throughout the presentation. Their thoughtful choice of both theme and honoree reflects what the Marlborough community holds dear: connection, community, and appreciation.
Following the yearbook dedication, the ASM transitioned to another cherished tradition: the Senior Serenade. Each grade performed their own special tribute to the Class of 2025, adapting popular songs with personalized lyrics to express their admiration and gratitude. The performances highlighted the exceptional impact this year’s Seniors have had across the Marlborough community.
This year’s serenade was particularly moving, showcasing the indelible mark the Class of 2025 is leaving on younger students. Through their leadership, kindness, and school spirit, the Seniors have proven themselves to be extraordinary role models who have significantly bolstered the Marlborough community. The heartfelt performances reflected the genuine appreciation and respect the underclassmen feel toward their departing peers.
After singing the Alma Mater, Assembly Coordinator Lauren V. ’25 dismissed students for her final time. As underclassmen rushed to pick up their yearbooks and fill them with signatures, the Seniors lingered in Caswell Hall, with tears in their eyes, reflecting on the magnitude of their Marlborough experience coming to an end.
This year’s Sundial is more than a book filled with photos; it is a celebration of a place, of memories, and of a community. It honors the milestones of the past year, the people who made it extraordinary, and will serve as a cherished reminder of the Marlborough journey for years to come.
