As the Class of 2028 continues their journey in their final year of Middle School, they have continued a cherished tradition at Marlborough: selecting class colors and a defining song that will accompany them throughout Upper School and beyond.
This year, the Class of 2028 carefully chose three colors that collectively represent their unique spirit and collective identity: Alabaster, Burgundy, and Blossom Pink.
Alabaster, a pristine white, symbolizes the diverse talents and individual brilliance each student brings to the class. As 9th Grade Arts Representative Joy W. ’28 explained, the color represents the “impressive talents and accomplishments” that weave together to create their special community, from musicians and athletes to academic achievers.
Burgundy embodies the class’s deep passion for learning and their strong sense of community. 9th Grade Athletics Representative Tessa W. ’28 highlighted how this rich color represents their “drive to explore ideas and insights,” reflecting their eagerness to broaden knowledge and foster collaboration.
Blossom Pink represents the compassion and growth of the class. 9th Grade Environmental Representative Juliette P. ’28 described it as a color that evokes the blossoming of flowers, symbolizing love, individual growth, and the creation of a safe, supportive space where everyone is heard and uplifted.
Complementing their carefully chosen colors, the class selected “Night Changes” by One Direction as their anthem, a song they will sing at many important traditions to come, culminating in their graduation. With themes of embracing change and cherishing moments, “Night Changes” resonated deeply with the Class of 2028. As 9th Grade Community Partnerships Representative Alyssa N. ’28 noted, the song explores “the uncertainty and often bittersweet reality of growing up,” encouraging students to embrace new beginnings while staying true to themselves.
9th Grade Wellbeing Representative Caroline L. ’28 highlighted lyrics that inspire living in the moment: “She’s heading for something that she won’t forget / Having no regrets is all that she really wants.” For the Class of 2028, this song serves as a reminder to appreciate their current experiences and connections.
The ceremony also unveiled the class’s sweatshirt design, a thoughtful representation of the Class of 2028 that beautifully incorporates all of these themes. Featuring their chosen colors and adorned with stars representing “Night Changes,” the sweatshirt includes dice that symbolize the class’s willingness and boldness to take risks and embrace life’s opportunities.
The color ceremony is more than an aesthetic exercise. As 9th Grade Class President Alisha K. ’28 emphasized, it was a collective effort that brought the class together, creating a shared representation of their spirit and experiences. The ceremony concluded with heartfelt gratitude to their dedicated team of advisors, faculty, and Class Dean Angela Lin, whose guidance and support have been instrumental in helping the Class of 2028 leave their mark on the history of Marlborough.
Congratulations to the Class of 2028, their Class Dean Angela Lin, and the entire 9th Grade Team on a meaningful and thoughtful Class Colors and Class Song Ceremony!
