Support and Connection with the Class of 2029

This week, the Class of 2029 celebrated the end of their Middle School experience by participating in one of Marlborough’s beloved class traditions: choosing class colors and a song.  A class’s colors and song are meant to capture the personality and energy of the grade as a whole, and remain with them throughout their time in Upper School and beyond. On Wednesday, the Class of 2029 revealed their class colors—Dusty Pink, Soft Lavender, and Champagne—and their class song, “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac.

“If I could describe our class in three words they would be: dedicated, supportive, and ambitious,” Class President Ella R. ’29 shared. “We are so excited to show you all what we have been working on.”

To reveal their class colors, the Class of 2029 put together a video presentation to show at the All-School Meeting (ASM). A testament to their bond and collaboration, Wellbeing Representative Lulit L. ’29 noted: “Our colors video has been such a fun, collaborative, and creative process. A committee of over 30 of our classmates have worked hard to write, edit, direct, and star in the video.” The result brought laughter, entertainment, and a bit of nostalgia to the entire community.

Following the video, Class Council members shared the symbolism behind each of their choices. Athletics Representative Phylicia Q. ’29 described Dusty Rose as a color of warmth and “faded beauty” that highlights the group's “maturity and growth together over time.” Soft Lavender, explained Environmental Representative Nima W. ’29, reflects a class that is “open-minded, calm and collected in the face of any challenge.” And Champagne represents “passion, joy, and celebration, which truly highlights the passion, love, and soul of the Class of 2029 puts into all that we do,” Community Partnerships Representative Mia L. ’29 shared.

To celebrate their newly minted class colors, the 9th graders revealed their sweatshirt design: a floral bouquet created by Sue L. ’29, rendered in all three class colors and featuring a quotation from their class song. Arts Representative Ariel A. ’29 described the meaning behind the abstract bouquet: “It celebrates the tight bond our class shares; just as each flower and color form a beautiful, cohesive whole, so does each member of our class come together to make a truly harmonious community.”

The ASM concluded with the Class of 2029 standing together, all wearing their class sweatshirts, and singing “Landslide.” Communications Representative Alexia A. ’29 reflected on why they had chosen this song. She shared, “The song feels especially meaningful for our grade; we’re all experiencing new challenges and transitions, learning more about ourselves, and figuring out what lies ahead. ‘Landslide’ reflects not only our individual journeys, but also the support and connection we share as a class. No matter what comes next, we’re moving forward together.”

Congratulations to the Class of 2029, their Class Dean Monica DePriest, and the faculty who supported the entire 9th Grade on a thoughtful, meaningful, and joyful colors and song presentation!
