From January 27 - 31, Marlborough buzzed with the energy and excitement of Spirit Week, one of the community’s favorite traditions. This annual celebration transforms campus into a hub of creativity, community service, and friendly competition, as each grade competes for the coveted Spirit Week title. With each day featuring a different dress-up theme, spirited activities, and community partnerships drives, students fully embrace the week. The festivities culminate in the much-anticipated dance competition, where each class showcases their unity, talent, and dance moves.
Anything But a Backpack Monday
The first day of Spirit Week challenged students to think outside the box with how they carried their books and supplies. From picnic baskets to go-go boots, students forewent convenience in the spirit of ingenuity and laughs. They also had the opportunity to give back to the community (and earn Spirit Week points) by helping build snack kits to be donated to the Karsh Center. Students showed up in droves, making so many kits in record time that within minutes, supplies had run out. More points were awarded during a Marlborough-themed trivia competition, with the Class of 2025 coming in first, followed by the Classes of 2026 and 2029.
Thirteen Going on Thirty Tuesday
Tuesday’s dress-up theme brought hilarious role reversals, with teachers channeling their inner Marlborough students and students dressing as their favorite teachers. In addition to hilarious outfits, students made a significant impact by donating 290 pounds of socks to be recycled and distributed to those in need. The Class of 2025 was responsible for 110 pounds of that total—they were dedicated to dominating the Spirit Week donation drives. Students then gathered at lunch to make a total of 272 friendship bracelets and attend six thought-provoking TEDx Talks given by Honors Research Upper Schoolers.
Jersey vs. Jersey Shore Wednesday
Wednesday continued the creative and competitive momentum. Decked out in sports jerseys and channeling their best Jersey Shore aesthetics, students most impressively contributed 689.76 pounds of textiles to be recycled. They decorated 402 sunglasses in their class colors and attended five TEDx Talks.
Throwback Thursday
Featuring a trip down memory lane, Thursday’s dress-up theme saw students embracing memes, TikTok trends, and nostalgic looks. The day saw an incredible donation of 10,054 granola bars to the Westside Food Bank, with the Class of 2025 donating an average of 31 bars per student and the Class of 2026 close behind with 30 bars per student. At lunch, classes battled it out in an old-fashioned tug-of-war competition. The Classes of 2025, 2028, and 2029 emerged victorious while screams and cheers echoed around them. On Thursday night, Seniors stayed on campus for an unforgettable sleepover featuring a Taylor Swift impersonator, dance practice, and an all-night dance party in the Shari and Edward Glazer Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
Class Colors Friday
The week culminated in Class Colors Friday, featuring the highly anticipated dance competition. After rehearsing throughout the week, every class showcased their unique choreography and class unity. While every grade raised the bar and danced to win, the Class of 2026 earned the second place victory and the Class of 2027 came in third. The reigning champions—the Class of 2025—claimed the first place title for the third year in a row.
In the overall Spirit Week standings, the classes ranked as follows:
First Place: Class of 2025
Second Place: Class of 2026
Third Place: Class of 2028
The Class of 2025 continued their impressive streak, winning Spirit Week for the second consecutive year and maintaining their historic three-year winning streak in the dance competition. Their Spirit Week victories are a testament to the close-knit bond this class shares and their dedication to supporting one another and the entire Marlborough community.
Beyond the competitions and dress-up days, Spirit Week demonstrated the Marlborough community’s commitment to community service, creativity, and unbridled school spirit. Through donations, recycling efforts, and community bonding, students show that spirit is about more than just winning—it is about coming together and making a difference.
