Purple Pride Takes Over

Marlborough’s campus was awash in purple as the community came together for one of the fall’s most anticipated traditions: Homecoming Week! What began as a Student Council initiative just a few years ago has blossomed into an exciting, campus-wide event that brings students together through spirited dress-up days, all-school activities, and athletic competition.

The week built toward Friday’s Varsity Volleyball home game and Saturday night’s Homecoming Dance for Grades 9 through 12, but each day offered its own special energy. Monday kicked things off with an environmental focus. Students sported their best thrifted fashion and contributed to a community recyclable plastics drive, keeping sustainability in mind for their fashion and recycling.

Tuesday brought the much-anticipated vibe-alike contest, with students showing off creative looks inspired by icons like Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet, or characters from The Summer I Turned Pretty. The day concluded with a fierce grade versus grade tug-of-war competition on the field, culminating with a lively battle between the Seniors and the staculty (Marlborough’s affectionate term for staff and faculty).

After all that energy and effort, students enjoyed Wednesday’s pajamas and “comfy clothes” day, complete with a self-care table at lunch with face masks and fidget toys for stress relief. After taking Thursday off of school as many in our community celebrated the Jewish High Holidays, Friday arrived with purple pride in full force. The entire school donned purple and gathered at lunch to make signs, getting energized to cheer on the Varsity Volleyball team at their home game. Fans enjoyed treats like cotton candy and popcorn before grabbing pom poms and applying glitter face paint as they headed into Combs Gym. As Sally Mustang rallied the crowd, Varsity Volleyball triumphed over their opponents in an exciting Homecoming victory!

The spirited week culminated on Saturday night with the “2016 Tumblr”-themed Homecoming Dance. Students in Grades 9 through 12 arrived in outfits inspired by that era and had a great night of music, dancing, and community.

Led by Student Council, Homecoming Week perfectly captures the vibrancy and enthusiasm that defines the Marlborough community—a chance  for students across all grade levels to connect, celebrate, and show off their endless purple pride.
