Outpouring of Support

Outpouring of Support

In the wake of the recent devastating fires across the Los Angeles-area, Marlborough School community members have stepped up to support those impacted most significantly. In the Windsor Square area, Marlborough’s next-door neighborhood, what began as a simple call for donations in a neighborhood chat soon blossomed into a massive drive that gathered over a hundred boxes of donations. Led by Germaine Gurr and her wife Courtney Cahill, parents of Marlborough ninth-grader Donevan, it began with a simple text: “Would anyone like to help gather donations for fire victims?”

Donevan and her brother took the lead on creating fliers to spread the word and soon—through the power of social media, text threads, and word-of-mouth—there were cars lined up down the block to drop off donations for victims of the fires. Marlborough students from across Windsor Square and Hancock Park, along with their peers from neighboring schools, showed up to help sort items, pack boxes, and hand out necessities directly to folks in need. Their efforts not only provided much-needed support to those affected but also fostered connections among neighbors and young volunteers. Marlborough is so proud of our community members for rising to the occasion and embodying our core values of Standing with Others and Being Kind
