Isabel A. '20 Wins National Junior Classical League Creative Writing Contest

Congratulations to Isabel A. '20 for winning the National Junior Classical League (NJCL) annual creative writing contest for her grade level.

The NJCL is sponsored by the American Classical League. The NJCL encourages the interest and appreciation of language, literature, and the culture of ancient Greece and Rome in junior and senior high school students. With chapters across the United States, Canada, and Australia, it is the largest Classical Organization boasting over 50,000 members.

This year's NJCL creative writing prompt asked students to use characters from classical history or mythology to write a 900 - 1200 word story in a popular genre. Stories were judged based on their creativity and originality, quality of content, historical accuracy, organization, style, mechanics and overall impression.

Isabel's story, Hera-cule Poirot, places the goddess Hera as detective in an Agatha Christie style mystery where she must uncover the truth when murderer of three cattle belonging to Helios are found murdered on the island of Thrinacia.

This is the second year in a row that Isabel has won her grade level NJCL Creative Writing contest.
