MACBETH is the story of someone struggling - even against the gods themselves - to remain master over their fate. As a result, they destroy everything they love. This collaborative and multidisciplinary production, set against the tumultuous backdrop of the Roaring 1920s and the madness of the 2020s, uses voice, media, music, and movement to explore the metaphors and emotions within Shakespeare’s text.
Directed by Michael Fountain and Kristi Shultz with performances by 23 students in grades 7 - 12 and featuring Cordelia R. '21 and Sophie G. '21 as Macbeth and Lady Macbeth.
The upper school design and technology class, Design Collaborative, is the acting Design Team for MACBETH. Under the mentorship of Amelia Charter, Amy A. '23 created video art, Charlie R. '22 engineered sound effects, Joy W. '21 worked with lighting, and Louise C. '21 took lead on designing the broadcast, bringing all the elements together.
In addition, music was compiled and composed by faculty member Luke Rothschild, integrating the vocal artistry of student, Iara N. '25.
Costumes were conceived and orchestrated by faculty member Kharen Zeunert with assistance from local artist Gabi Mayorga.
