Connection and Community: Better Together

On September 4, 2025, the Marlborough community welcomed guest curator Mr. Aaron Schulte and several artists whose works are on display in Seaver Gallery for the first exhibition of the year, titled Better Together. The exhibition features twelve artists and an iteration of it was originally displayed at Idolwild Gallery in 2024, where Marlborough’s Visual Arts Department Head Ms. Chelsea Dean had the opportunity to see the show, sparking a desire to bring it to Seaver Gallery.

At the gallery reception, students and staculty heard from Mr. Schulte and the artists in attendance about their artistic processes. Mr. Schulte shared the inspiration for the show, explaining that “Better Together was born out of the isolation from the pandemic,” with a desire to evoke feelings of connection and warmth from viewers.

Bringing Better Together to Seaver Gallery provided increased space for Mr. Schulte to expand the show, allowing the work to “go beyond the personal to show how beautiful the world around us is when we have community with our fellow humans and with nature,” he described. The additional space also allowed the show to elaborate on its theme of connection, featuring more pieces from more artists that reflect “your love for your pet, nature, and things that make you feel good and connected to a community and to your environment,” Mr. Schulte added.

Ms. Dean expressed her enthusiasm for the opportunity for students to connect directly with professional artists and ask questions about their craft. She commented that the show “was something that Mr. Schulte came up with during the pandemic, and it’s certainly something that still resonates with all of us now, this need for connection.”

The exhibition displays a range of mediums to appreciate, including photography, paintings, sculpture, and textile design. The artists who contributed their beautiful work to the show are Enchi, Daniela Garcia-Hamilton, Jessica Goehring, Viktoria Gokun, Tom Harjo, Asher Hartman, Nancy Kay Turner, Emily Marchand, Brad Stubbs, Keywan Tafteh, Daisy Velasco, and Andrea Vence. The show runs through October 31, 2025 and the Visual Arts Department invites you to view the exhibition to experience these powerful themes of connection and community firsthand.
