Spring Athletics Recap
The spring season for Marlborough Athletics was nothing short of a historic one as our teams enjoyed podium-finishes, and set some school records in the process. Overall, a total of 171 students participated across 8 teams in Beach Volleyball, Equestrian, Golf, Lacrosse, Swimming, and Track and Field. Our athletes and coaches were able to celebrate their many triumphs at the Spring Athletic Recognition Ceremony on May 12, 2022.

The Varsity Lacrosse team finished their season with a 5-1 league record (17-2 overall record) and were named Mission League Champions. In just the 2nd year that CIF-SS has hosted a girls’ lacrosse tournament, the Marlborough Varsity Lacrosse advanced to the title game and defeated Mira Costa High School to claim the Division 3 CIF-SS Championship title.

Varsity Beach Volleyball enjoyed their first year as an official Mission League sport. The team practiced at Will Rogers State Beach, making the trip from school two times per week. Their hard work paid off and these student-athletes went entirely undefeated by their competitors, making the Mustangs the 2022 Mission League Beach Volleyball champions.

Varsity Swimming went undefeated this season and were named the Sunshine League Champs. The team went on to compete in CIF-SS Preliminaries on Wednesday, May 4th at the Marguerite Aquatics Complex in Mission Viejo, with six swimmers (Kailyn S. ’25, Allie K. ’24, Chloe K. ’24, Stella V. ’23, Nora B. ’22, Lara V. ’22) advancing to the CIF-SS Finals.

In the CIF-SS Division Finals, Varsity Track & Field had a strong showing as they wrapped up an impressive season overall. The team went undefeated in league competition, making them the Sunshine League Champions. At the CIF-SS Division Finals, Fallyn G. ’24 took 3rd Place in the 100m hurdles and 3rd Place in the Triple Jump. Maddie A. ’23 finished 7th in the Pole Vaulting finals.

In Middle School sports, the 7th and 8th Grade Golf team won the Junior High Delphic League (JHDL) Championship. They defeated Harvard-Westlake by 5 strokes to claim the title. This is the first time Marlborough has won the JHDL Championship for golf!

Middle School Lacrosse also had a strong season. The 7th and 8th Grade Lacrosse team defeated Culver City Middle School 9-3 to win the Junior High Delphic League Championship. This impressive team also finished their season undefeated.

7th and 8th Grade Track and Field had a large turnout of enthusiastic athletes this year. The team competed in 5 league meets where we saw many of our students record personal bests in several events, and finished the season with 11 athletes being awarded medals at the Junior High Delphic League Finals.

Our Equestrian team competed in three Interscholastic Equestrian League (IEL) shows this year. Scarlett M. ’27 was the Junior Varsity (JV) Equitation Champion, came in fourth place in the overall JV rider standings, and came in first place in the Junior Varsity Horsemanship Medal Class. Isabel K. ’24 was the JV Hunter Champion, the JV Equitation Co-Reserve Champion, won second place in the overall JV Rider Standings, and was Reserve Champion for Overall Hunter Rider (across all divisions). The JV team – Georgia B. ’27, Scarlett M. ’27, Isabel K. ’24, Grace P. ’24, Skylar H. ’23, and Jordan E. ’22 – were champions in their division. Reeve S. ’22 won fourth place in Varsity Equitation.
