When a love of both tennis and golf - two fall-season sports at Marlborough - left Sydney B. ‘21 torn between which one to play this year, supportive teachers and coaches and her “can-do” attitude made it possible for her to pursue both.

“The most fun part was getting to know two different teams,” said Sydney. “For tennis, many of my friends were also on the team, so it was nice knowing people as we started the season, but it was also great getting to know the people in the upper grades on the team, too. On the golf team, I was the only freshmen and everyone else had known each other for a long time, since they were all seniors and juniors. I felt intimidated at first, but they were all super welcoming and nice and I soon became part of the team, too.”

Although Sydney realizes that she may ultimately have to choose one over the other, she enjoyed getting to practice, play, and get better at both sports this year.

“If I think I will be able to handle it, I would love to play two sports next year, but I will have to wait to first know my classes and schedule for next year. If I am only going to play one, then there will definitely be a very tough decision to make.”
