Champions on the Field and in the Classroom

On October 7, the Marlborough community gathered to celebrate the outstanding achievements of teams who brought home championships across multiple sports throughout the 2024-2025 season. As each championship banner was presented during this special All-School Meeting (ASM), the community honored the student-athletes who exemplify not only athletic excellence, but also the balance of dedication, academics, and teamwork that defines Marlborough athletics.

The celebration began with the Junior High Delphic League Champion 7th and 8th Grade Swim Team, which posted the strongest season in 7th and 8th-grade program history. The team won the league title by a commanding 122 points over the second-place team and broke both league and School records. As Elaine P. ’29 proudly noted during the ASM, “Our Mustangs won all the individual events at the JHCL final, with a total of 11 first-place finishes.”

The Varsity Golf Team earned recognition for claiming the Division I League Championship for the first time in 23 years, while also posting the lowest combined score in Marlborough history and placing fourth in the nation. Sydney K. ’26 reflected on what made the season special: “Before joining the Marlborough golf team, I never thought golf was a team sport, but boy was I wrong. Last season was filled with hugs, celebration, and team camaraderie that led not only to victories, but countless memories we will never forget.”

Tata V. ’26, one of last year’s Varsity Volleyball Team captains, accepted the Angeles League Championship banner for a team that won by more than double the points of the second-place finisher. “The team faced many ups and downs throughout our entire high school volleyball career, but it was through those challenges that everyone grew closer, always leaning on each other for support,” she explained. “That bond we all created helped fuel our success.”

The Varsity Track and Field team celebrated their Angelus League Championship, earned through what team members described as equal parts physical demand and unwavering team spirit. Cara H. ’26 shared favorite memories from the season, including “pre-relay dance warm-ups, watching many members of our team beat boys when races got combined, going to Oregon for Nike Nationals, and lying on the track after giving everything we had at our practices.” Despite track and field’s reputation as an individual sport, the team proved otherwise: “No matter if someone’s race was at 8:00 a.m., we could always count on them to stay to cheer on the last event at 8:00 p.m.”

The Varsity Lacrosse Team earned their fifth consecutive Mission League Championship and came within one goal of advancing to the CIF Division I championship game. Aubrey G. ’26 emphasized that “this title was the result of countless hours on the field and in the weight room, countless cheers and clicks of sticks upon scoring, and countless smiles shared between teammates.” The team went undefeated in Mission League play, outscoring league opponents by an average of 10.9 goals per game. The lacrosse team also earned recognition as CIF-SS Academic Team Champions, posting the highest team GPA among hundreds of CIF teams.

The presentation concluded with the Varsity Water Polo Team, who achieved CIF-SS Academic Team Champion status with a combined GPA of 3.91—the highest in their division. Sonia H.S. ’26 highlighted the team’s historic accomplishments: “We beat our Mission League rivals Harvard-Westlake for the first time in School history and made it to our first CIF Division I playoff for the first time in School history—all while studying hard on bus rides, after practice, and during tournaments on weekends.”

Throughout the presentation, student-athletes emphasized their gratitude for coaches, teammates, and the way the Marlborough community supports all student-athletes—not just championship teams. They also recognized the graduated Seniors who contributed to these programs’ successes, an example of the bond that connects teammates even after graduation. As the ceremony concluded with a clamor of cheers and applause from the entire community, it was clear that these banners represent more than victories. They represent the commitment, resilience, and joy that define what it means to be a Marlborough Mustang.
