Athletics Recap - Week of August 19, 2024

Volleyball

Our first match of the week saw us face off against a strong Culver City HS team on our home court. Despite the familiar surroundings, Culver City came out with intensity and quickly put us on our back foot. It was a tough loss at home, but we left the court with valuable lessons and a renewed determination. Just days later, we traveled to face a formidable Flintridge Prep team on the road. While it was another challenging match, our team demonstrated heart and a competitive spirit that will only make us stronger moving forward. These back-to-back matches against tough opponents have pushed us, but they also revealed our potential and the areas where we can grow.

We look to gain momentum this week as we have two great opportunities at home. This Tuesday we face Providence HS and Thursday Night we play Glendora HS.

Tennis

The Mustangs kicked off the season with an impressive 2-0 start, securing wins against a tough Arcadia team and an experienced Archer squad. Our singles lineup, featuring Bella O. '25, Mia B. '26, and Kira C. '28 set the tone by dropping only one set across the first two matches. Meanwhile, our doubles pairings are coming together, giving us a strong selection of players—a great challenge for any coach.

Next up, we head to Manhattan Beach on Tuesday to face Mira Costa at 3:00 PM, followed by a match against La Salle in Pasadena on Thursday at 3:00 PM.

Golf

Our Golf team is gearing up for a big opening week, we have three top-tier matches to kick off the season. They’ll be taking on strong opponents including San Marino, Harvard Westlake, Temple City, and Peninsula. Pre Season is over, now we get to test our skills.

Cross Country

The preseason has come to an end, and it's time to kick off our official season! This Saturday, August 31, we open at the Fastback Invitational, where we'll face top-tier competition. This meet is the perfect opportunity to set the tone for another record-breaking season.
