Sabaah Folayan '09 Directs Documentary Film, "Whose Streets?"

Folayan's powerful documentary about Ferguson premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January.

After graduating from Marlborough in 2009, Sabaah Folayan attended Columbia University as a premed student and earned a degree in biology. But with an interest in social issues she soon became active as a community organizer for non-profits and grassroots groups.

Now Sabaah is bringing a fresh perspective to urgent social issues through film and visual media, with her directorial debut film Whose Streets? premiering at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. Supported by groups like Sundance Documentary Film Program, Tribeca Film INstitute, Ford Foundation, and MacArthur, Whose Streets? chronicles the experience of activists living in Ferguson, Missouri.

Recently spoke with Sabaah about her experience creating the film and her passion for its subject matter in the article Sabaah Folayan: You Don't Need to Wait for Permission to Become an Activist.
