Drawing & Painting
Sharpen Your Eye. Find Your Voice. Make Your Mark.
At Marlborough, drawing and painting are more than technical skills—they are ways of seeing, thinking, and responding to the world. Our Drawing & Painting program is built on the belief that great artists are made through practice, process, and personal discovery. Students begin by developing essential foundations: how to observe with intention, work with light and form, and understand the expressive power of line, color, and composition.
Explore, Experiment, Express
As students move through the program, they’re encouraged to experiment boldly, think conceptually, and pursue work that reflects their unique point of view. They learn how to translate complex ideas into visual language, and how to communicate meaning through mark-making and material exploration.
Advanced students dive deeper—developing portfolios, conducting self-driven research, and preparing work for exhibition or AP submission. Along the way, they take part in critique, reflection, and revision, gaining insight into their own creative process and the broader context of contemporary art.
